TIFF Kids is committed to sparking a connection between kids, film and the storytellers that are creating cinema made for their generation. Last year the festival featured a compelling lineup of 143 films - 28 features and 115 shorts - to more than 30,000 people and represented the best of Canadian and international cinema, hands-on family activities and showcases for young filmmakers.
Three Young People's Juries select the best film presented in their age category. In addition, a jury of industry professionals presents two awards for best live-action and animated short film. In 2016, the TIFF Kids Festival expanded to three public weekends in order to give families more opportunities to see quality children's films they may never have the opportunity to see again.
The 2017 TIFF Kids International Film Festival will include but not be limited to the following programmes: Reel Rascals, Special Presentations, Short Film Programme, Feature Film Programme, and an Educational Programme that allows teachers and students to delve further into the themes explored in the films presented at the festival. Films are selected on the basis of quality and originality and preference will be given to films not previously screened at a festival in Canada.
