INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
April 20 to 23, 2017
In the Spotlight today is the 6th Annual Julien Dubuque International Film Festival(JDIFF), awarding over $60,000 in cash and prizes and priding itself in the filmmaker experience from submission, to acceptance, to attending and beyond. Filmmakers enjoy networking opportunities, sanctuary in the VIP filmmaker lounge and introductions to media partners that will give their films the attention they deserve. The fest screens more than 75 films - each film receiving no less than two screenings - in categories including docs, shorts, features, kids/family. Recently named one of MovieMaker Magazine's "Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World", JDIFF draws upon the rich artistic history of the American Midwest.
Selected filmmakers compete for cash prizes ranging from $2,500 USD to $10,000 awarded at the fests red carpet event, and the top three nominees of each category will receive complimentary travel and accommodations to the event. Awards include Best Documentary and Narrative Feature, Best Children's/Family Film, and Best Short. JDIFF's final jury is comprised of directors, cinematographers, film critics, and other working professionals who truly know great filmmaking. Official Selections at the festival will enjoy exceptional public exposure.
The festival attracts more than 5,000 attendees - JDIFF graciously hosts evening events open to anyone with even a slight curiosity to indie films. Richard Water, Director of The O'Briens had this to say after traveling to the festival from Ireland, "We went to Dubuque, not sure what to expect, and ended up having the time of our lives, not wanting to leave, feeling so creatively inspired and already kicking ourselves into gear on new material so we can return again ASAP." JDIFF welcomes filmmakers with a warm Midwest charm and keeps the fun flowing over the course of the entire fest with hospitable stays and connections that will last a lifetime.
