FILM FESTIVALToronto - Canada
February 17 to 19, 2017
In the Spotlight is the 6th Annual TIFF Next Wave Film Festival, welcoming the youngest and brightest new filmmakers between the ages of 14 and 19. This spectacular weekend offers free movie screenings for high school students, one amazing retrospective of teen film classics, amazing guests, industry workshops and panels, the 24-Hour Film Challenge, Battle of the Scores, and more. All unfolding in the heart of Toronto's Entertainment District and hosted by one of the most prestigious film festivals on the circuit, Toronto International Film Festival.
Next Wave is an event designed for teens and more importantly is programmed by young adults. The TIFF Next Wave Film Festival is steered by the TIFF Next Wave Committee, an advisory committee made up of 12 youth dedicated to bringing quality film programming to youth in Toronto. Hailing from specialized arts institutions, public schools and private schools across the greater Toronto area, the Committee members' tastes, opinions and critical voices are as diverse as they are strong. Some are aspiring filmmakers, writers and actors; some are interested in learning the business of film and festivals; some like planning cultural events; and some just love movies.
Three categories are now open for submissions: Live Action Feature, Animated Feature, and Documentary Features. All films submitted must have a run time of 41-minutes or greater.
