FILM FESTIVALNew Orleans, Louisiana - USA
October 12 to 21, 2016
In the Spotlight today is the 27th Annual New Orleans Film Festival (NOFF), an Oscar-qualifying event has been called the "top-growing festival" by Forbes and listed as one of the "Top 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" by MovieMaker Magazine for five years running. The festival's growing reputation is built upon a commitment to discovering new and diverse voices with more than 90% of the lineup coming directly from submissions.
MovieMaker Magazine praises NOFF as, "particularly adept at discovering films that have been overlooked elsewhere." Born in a city known for its eclecticism and artistic vibrancy, NOFF seeks out bold and passionate storytellers. With top-notch programming in one of the world's most cinematic cities, NOFF serves up a dose of Southern hospitality that's hard to beat. Last year's festival screened 200 films over the course of nine days and reached over 20,000 attendees. For the past several years, the festival has played host to over 350 filmmakers to show their work, prompting RogerEbert.com to call it "a community of film lovers event [that is] not about networking but sharing." USA Today also said that NOFF is "more fun than festivals in other towns...The parties are better, the events are zippier, the content is moving and alive."
The festival works hard to offer guests countless opportunities to connect with the industry presence at the fest, facilitating meetings with distributors like The Weinstein Company, Paramount, Array, FilmBuff, and The Orchard; as well as funders, broadcasters, and other film organizations like Cinereach, Kickstarter, the National Black Programming Consortium, ITVS, Seed&Spark, and the International Documentary Association. Attending filmmakers and cinema fans enjoy a unique camaraderie in a city that has an international reputation for knowing how to have a good time.
