International Film Festival Rotterdam recognizes the important role of film criticism and supports journalistic talent with a trainee project for the next wave of film journalists: the IFFR Trainee Project Young Critics.

Bangalore critic Archana Nathan was one among the finalists to represent the IFFR 2016 group of Young Film Critics. They will take part in a talent development programme during IFFR 2016. As a Trainee they are part of the editorial staff, will have 2-3 expert meetings with experienced film critics,
will cover the festival for their own affiliation, take part in the FIPRESCI jury and of course enjoy the full pleasure of being at International Film Festival Rotterdam.


Archana Nathan is a journalist and film critic living in Bangalore, India. She is a staff reporter and sub-editor at The Hindu, a leading English national daily of the country. She reviews Kannada films,  a sub-genre of Indian cinema for the State edition of The Hindu. Trained in Indian classical music and dance for  nine years, Archana writes regularly on music, dance, theatre, culture, education and independent cinema. She holds a Masters degree in Arts and Aesthetics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi where she studied Art History, Theatre and Performance and Cinema Studies. She has also worked as a research assistant to Ramachandra Guha, a renowned historian from India.
