15th Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF)May 1 to 10, 2014

Kaafiron Ki Namaaz (The Virgin Arguments), an independent feature film directed by Ram
Ramesh Sharma and produced by Bhargav Saikia under his production company Lorien Motion
Pictures, will have its International Premiere at the 15th Jeonju International Film Festival
(JIFF) to be held from 1st - 10th May 2014 in the city of traditional arts - Jeonju in South Korea.
The film will be screened in the International Competition category and it is the only Indian
film in competition at the festival this year. Kaafiron Ki Namaaz (The Virgin Arguments) is the
director’s first feature film.

The narrative of the film follows a writer and his camera assistant who travel from Kolkata to Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir. The writer’s purpose is to interview a recently court-martialed army man. The two of them meet on a rainy Christmas Eve in an old, abandoned Kashmiri hotel. Located just below the army man’s abode is an all-night tea shop run by Junaid, who during the day works with a wedding band. As the writer and the army man talk, Junaid serves them tea and biscuits, while occasionally engaging in small talk with the two. As the night gets colder and the questions gather momentum, the three reveal their most personal secrets to one another. The camera assistant is a mute spectator, recording the rising confrontation between them. The film focuses on this man as a mute accessory to the proceedings as their dramatic encounter develops and turns into a chilling thriller.

Launched in 2000, JIFF is regarded as the Mecca of independent film festivals and the widest window of adventurous films in Asia. In its 15th edition this year, the festival will feature 181 films from 44 countries.
