The New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) will pay tribute to director Gurinder Chadha and her two-decade career in films. It is 20 years since the Kenya-born director made her feature film debut with Bhaji on the Beach, a story set in the UK about a family of Indian immigrants on a day trip to Blackpool. Starting with this one, her films have been consistently lauded, with Bend It Like Beckham as the favourite.

Gurinder will grace the 2014 NYIFF (May  5 to 10). The festival will screen Chadha’s documentaries, Acting Our Age, I’m British But …,” A Nice Arrangement and What Do You Call an Indian Woman Who Is Funny.
