India to be guest country at Zurich Film Festival 2014

The 10th edition of the Zurich Film Festival will spotlight India as the guest country this year. Every year, the festival focuses on the development of a promising national film scene in its New World View section.

The New World View section will showcase ten new feature films and documentary films by emerging Indian filmmakers along with a short film programme.

The programming will focus on productions that are emerging from the shadow of the subcontinent’s mass cinema, Bollywood tradition, and enjoying growing national success by approaching new themes with fresh narrative styles.

In explaining the decision to choose India, the festival co-directors Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri said, “New Indian cinema has experienced an upsurge in recent years, and not just on the subcontinent. It is among young filmmakers that the change is most visible.”

Indian independent cinema, not Bollywood, will be in focus for the 10th anniversary edition of the ZFF, which runs September 25 – October 5.

The 10th Zurich Film Festival runs September 25 – October 5, 2014.
