 L’Atelier invites 15 filmmakers to 2014 Cannes ...

15 select  directors whose submitted work was found most promising have earned the privilege of being mentored at the 10th Cinéfondation’s L’Atelier during Cannes 2014.  Between between May 16 to 22,  L’Atelier  will arrange meetings on their behalf with film industry professionals interested in investing in the completion of their projects.

Among the chosen few is  Deepak Rauniyar from Nepal. L'Atelier has selected his second feature film project White Sun which is  a dark comedy about life in a small Nepali village after the end of Nepal's decade long armed conflict that began in 1996.   

1978-born Deepak Rauniyar  worked as a senior writer/producer for the BBC World Service Trust (2007 to 2010) where he wrote/directed several award-winning radio dramas. Screening in Berlin 2013, his debut feature, Highway, became the first Nepali film to screen at a major international festival. His earlier short film Chaukaith (2008) screened internationally, and won a Special Jury prize at the Ahmedabad International Film Festival (2009) and at the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival. He is a fellow of the Berlin Talent Campus (2012), Asian Cultural Council New York (2013) and TIFF Talent Lab (2013).

The Cinéfondation’s L’Atelier in its aim to encourage the new generation of filmmakers, has so far, out of their 141 selected projects have 85 among them released in theaters and 44 are currently in pre-production.

For L’Atelier’s 10th edition, 15 projects from 15 countries have been selected, from the new director to the well-known filmmaker.
